Carol Swenson

Carol Dee Swenson, 73, Olathe, formerly of Chanute, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at her home.

Carol was born in Fredonia on Aug. 6, 1938, the daughter of Ralph E. and Dora Mavis (Dozer) Tomlinson. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1956. She continued her education through night courses.

She was united in marriage to Dean Bright in 1956. They divorced in 1971. She married Al Swenson in March of 1984. They subsequently divorced but remained close companions.

When Carol moved to Olathe she worked as a market administrator for J.C. Air. They were bought out by B.F. Goodrich and were then purchased by Aeroflex, where she worked until her retirement. She also worked part time at Crowne Realty and after her retirement she volunteered at Olathe Medical Center.

Carol traveled extensively through Europe with the Johnson County Park and Recreation 50-Plus Program; but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and participating in their activities.

She is survived by her son Mike Bright and his wife Becky of Petrolia; a daughter, Sandra Graham of St. Joseph, Mo.; grandchildren, Nick Bright of Independence, Jeff Bright, currently stationed in Afghanistan, Tyson Graham and Tom Graham, both of Olathe; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Tomlinson of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Bright; and two sisters, Ann Myers and Lois Lindquist.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel, 14275 Blackbob Road, Olathe, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, 16 N. Forest, Chanute.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and left with the funeral home.
