David H. Conine, 71, of Chanute died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Fort Scott, to N.H. “Herb” and M. Ollene (Stout) Conine. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1956.
After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended Allen County Community College and Kansas State University.
On Nov. 16, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Kay Fox. They lived in several communities before moving to Chanute in 1972. He ran his own business, Midco Construction, designing and building commercial and residential buildings throughout the area.
He was active in the community serving on numerous boards and in several organizations, including First United Methodist Church, Aircraft Owners Pilot Association and as president of Southeast Kansas Mental Health.
He enjoyed trading stocks, traveling and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Juli Henderson and her husband, Richard, Rockwall, Texas, and Jill Haight and her husband, Dan, Chanute; a son, James David and his wife, Dawn, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Phillip and his wife, Cecilia, Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Kaylee and Kelsi Henderson and Alleigh and Alec Haight; and a stepgranddaughter, Leah Witt.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Chanute. The Rev. Gerry Sharp will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
