Edward Hale McGinty, 92, at the Medicalodge in Neosho, Mo., on Saturday, May 14, 2011.
Hale is survived by two daughters, Sharon Whitworth and husband, Jerry, Iola, and Marsha Coffman and husband, Don,
Yates Center; and Stephen McGinty, Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Tara Hartman, Charlie Whitworth, Chris Coffman, Stephen Coffman, Brent McGinty, Michael McGinty, Cory Knight and Brandon Knight; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 
 He was born March 2, 1919 in Neosho, to A.C. and Blanche McGinty. He grew up in and lived his entire life in Neosho.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and during World War II he was stationed in the Philippine Islands.
After the war he joined his father, A.C. McGinty, in the family business, McGinty’s Department Store. Being a born merchant, He enjoyed his days serving others at the store on the Neosho square. 
On March 20, 1940, He married Betty Lou McGuire. She had caught his eye when she was a senior at Neosho High School. She was his helpmate and the chief supporter of his many endeavors until her passing in 2009. 
Education was of utmost importance. He spent 18 years on the Neosho School Board, 11 of them as president. His interest in and dedication to education never waned.  Hale was very active in all aspects of his church life, serving as Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, trustee and board member of the First Christian Church. He also served his community as co-founder and president of the Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Association, active member and president of the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce, loyal member and president of Lions Club and Rotary Club, member of the site-advisory council for the Neosho Middle School, volunteer for the Food Basket Brigade and a generous retail contributor to all area schools. He was given many awards and honors during his lifetime in Neosho. Most notably, he was chosen as the 1987 Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Also, in 2008 the Neosho Area Business and Industrial Foundation, Inc., named their new building the Hale McGinty Business Development Center in his honor. Most recently he was chosen by the Neosho R-5 Charitable Foundation as an Outstanding Neosho Alumni. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou (McGuire) McGinty, a brother, John, and two sisters, Margaret Thornburgh and Barbara Frohlich.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Al Gritten will officiate. Private family interment will be held prior to the memorial service. 
Friends may call at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, on Wednesday from noon until 7 p.m. Visitation will be from  5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
