Visitation for Don Ensminger of rural Moran, whose death on Monday was published in Tuesday’s Register, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Iola’s First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Moran Cemetery.
Don was born Oct. 17, 1926, on the family’s home place northwest of Moran, to Charles and Margaret (Larkey) Ensminger. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Moran High School. Don served in the Kansas Army National Guard. He served during World War II and was also serving during the 1951 flood.
On Dec. 27, 1959, Don married Pat Patterson at Moran’s Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Moran until 1970 when they moved to their home in the country. Don farmed and made Ensminger Oil. Farming was his life, but oil was his passion.
He was a member of Moran’s Presbyterian Church until it closed. His other memberships include the Masonic Lodge, Mirza Shrine and Little Wheels motorcycle unit.
His is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Alan and his wife, Lori, rural Moran; a daughter, Dr. Jo Lynn Nemeth, Overland Park; four grandchildren, Brandon Nemeth and Jennifer, Cameron and Kaitlin Ensminger; a brother, Jack, rural Moran; his dog, Pepper; and his cat, Herkimer Skezitz Snicklefritz a/k/a “Kat.”
