Fred A. Fillmore Jr., 84, of rural Colony died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
He was born Aug. 17, 1925, on a farm south of Osage City, the son of Fred A. and Ethel (Roakey) Fillmore Sr. He grew up in the Osage City area.
On Jan. 21, 1950, he married Dorothy N. Croucher in Osage City. They lived and farmed by the Neosho River north of Burlington until John Redmond Reservoir was constructed. They then relocated to a farm west of Colony.
Besides farming, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, tractor pulls and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of the home; four daughters, Sherry Carter, Le Roy, Susan Sharp, Leawood, Mo., Synthia Renyer, Burlington, and Shelia Luedke, Mandeville, La.; a brother, Clyde, Osage City; three sisters, Irma Born, Lebo, Ruth Romine, Osage City, and Ann Bojack, Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and later in life he raised three grandsons, Fred, J.L. and Michael Blevins.
A grandson, J.L. Blevins, and six brothers died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home in Iola. The Rev. Paul Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Colony Cemetery.
