Janice Kay Hoffman, 66, a resident of rural Fort Scott, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Via Christi Health Center in Pittsburg.
She was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Moran, the daughter of Hiram Burl “Pat” Goodsell and Mary Elizabeth Vanatta Goodsell.
She was graduated from Moran High School and Pittsburg State University. She married James Hoffman on June 21, 1969, in Moran.
Prior to her marriage, she had worked as a social worker for Allen County. She later worked at the Country Cupboard for more than 30 years. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds, especially quilting and embroidery. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.
For many years, she volunteered her time to both the Good Old Days and Homes for the Holidays Tour and also served as a 4-H project leader. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; her children, Becky Tourtillott and husband, Joe, Fort Scott, and Brian Hoffman and wife, Tamara, Lawrence; and her grandchildren Hannah and Wyatt Tourtillott and Kyle Hoffman. Also surviving are her sister, Joyce Todd, Fort Scott, and 10 nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, the Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct a memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Fort Scott. Burial will follow in Fort Scott National Cemetery.
