Martha Shannon DelaCruz passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016 in Kingwood, Texas. She had just celebrated her 72nd birthday.
Martha is survived by her husband, Jessie DelaCruz three children, Audry Lane, Humble, Texas, Jessica DelaCruz, Humble, Texas, Shannon Nicklaus, Pittsburg; a sister, Margaret Kelly, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and six grandchildren, Mariah, 15, Chloe, 14, Sydney, 14, Annalia, 10, Evan, 8, and Samuel, 8.
Martha was born in Iola on Sept. 24, 1944, to Eileen Calloway Shannon and David Shannon. She graduated from Iola High School. In 1968 she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Pittsburg State University. She stayed at home to raise her children and later did accounting work in the Houston area.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who demonstrated unconditional love through her words and actions. She was never too busy to take time to listen and care. She had a unique ability to see the bright side in every situation and the good in every person. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and anything involving her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life honoring Martha will be Tuesday at the Atascocita Community Church, 17271 Lake Houston Pkwy., Humble, Texas 77346.
