Our nation has lost its way.

Who can truly be happy with the subjects being bantered around congressional committees, White House whisperings, and federal investigations into the darkest of human behaviors?

A popular comedian is sentenced to prison after being accused by dozens of women of drugging and abusing them.

A U.S. Supreme Court justice nomination turns into a daily back-and-forth of drunken memories from 30 years ago. Vivid lines are drawn as strong opinions are held.

The President of the United States admits to paying prostitutes and porn stars, and Democrats and Republicans see themselves as irreconcilable warriors.

Somewhere in this melee are decent Americans who despise dishonesty, uphold morality and seek better days. They are being disappointed by their leaders in Washington, and by the ugliness they see in men who mistreat women; public and private leaders who confuse abuse with power, and integrity with arrogance.

Across this great land are average wage earners, small business owners and those fortunate enough to invest their savings in the enterprises that make our country tick.

Fortunately, it still works.

A 2,000-year-old precept provides hope that 325 million Americans will find the gumption, intellect and old-fashioned morality to dump the bums who are leading this wonderful nation astray.

St. Paul wrote it with a quill pen: “When evil prevails, overcome it by doing good.”

It has already begun.

Americans just need time to smooth out the wrinkles.
