Aguirre has strong day at Fredonia

FREDONIA — Yates Center High’s athletes had a tough day Thursday at Fredonia High’s Fredonia Relays.
But the Wildcats also had some bright spots, according to head coach Dan Berg.
“Sam Aguirre medaling or placing in all three of his events. C.J.Stiffer threw a personal best in the shot put,” Berg said. “Rachel Mentzer improved her 800-meter time by 30 seconds and Hailey Bedell scoring in the 300-meter low hurdles.”
The meet was besieged with a severe weather delay, rain and cold.
Yates Center’s David Van Hoose stayed home ill and Paige Steinforth twisted her ankle in the high jump. Mindi Holloway false started in the finals of the 100-meter high hurdles.
Aguirre had a strong day as he finished third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.6 seconds. He was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal-best time of 44.1 seconds.
Aguirre also took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1⁄4 inch. Stiffler was fifth in the shot put at 38’11”.
Yates Center goes to Neodesha this coming Thursday.
