Yates Center, Humboldt have strong outings at Fredonia

FREDONIA — Yates Center High’s Dylan Sicka won all three distance races at Friday’s 71st Annual Fredonia Relays.
Sicka won the 3200-meter run in 10 minutes 41 seconds. It was the first time this season he ran the long distance race.
Sicka also won the 1600-meter run in 4:58.9 and the 800-meter run in 2:06.1.
Humboldt High’s Jarred Barr took third in the 3200-meter run in 11:33 and was sixth in the 1600-meter run in 5:13. Nick Miller was the other Humboldt boy to place — fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.6 seconds.
Yates Center’s Donnie Bennett ran second in the small-school 110-meter high hurdles in 15.9 seconds and Sam Aguirre was sixth in 20.1 seconds. Bennett posted a personal-best time of 41.5 seconds for second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
Bennett took second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5 3/4 inches, which was a personal best. He was fourth in the high jump at 5’8”.
On the girls’ side, Paige Steinforth ran a personal-best 65.2 seconds to win the 400-meter dash. She combined with Cherokee Shafer, Sami Hatch and Haley Bedel for sixth place in the 4×100-meter relay race in 57.6 seconds.
“We had a good day as Donnie and Dylan keep competing well,” said Dan Berg, Yates Center coach. “Our athletes continue to compete hard and improve.”
Shaffer won the high jump with a clearance of 4’6”. Humboldt’s Brandi Malloy tied for third at 4’4” and Steinforth was tied for fourth at 4’2”.
Yates  Center’s Brae Adams took sixth in the discus with a throw of 85 feet.
Malloy gave Humboldt a third-place finish, 19.2 seconds, in the 100-meter high hurdles. Teammate Whitney Strak was fifth in 19.38.
Strack placed sixxth in the 300-meter low hurdles in 57.57 seconds. She was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 29.5 seconds.
Humboldt’s Raquel Hill claimed the silver medal in the 1600-meter run in 6:02 and silver medal in the 3200-meter run in 13:28. She was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:51.
