Eight Allen Community College track and field athletes ended their season on their sport’s biggest stage.
The Allen Red Devils women 4×100 relay team won the NJCAA national title after taking first by less than a tenth of a second.
Sophomore Kayveonna Jackscon, freshman RaNayla Moten, sophomore Ala’ Jah Brooks and sophomore Adetutu Aladeloye completed their run in 44.58 seconds, just ahead of local rival Barton Community College. They broke into the finals after coming second to Western Texas College by four-tenths of a second.
By the final, they had found their footing.
Moten later took second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.68. Jackson took third in 11.72 and Aladelove took fourth in 11.73. Morten also took fourth in the 200-meter dash while Aladeloye took sixth. Moten also took second in the 200-meter dash, followed by Aladeloye, who took sixth in 23.46.
As a team, the Red Devils finished ninth in the country.
The Men’s 4×100 relay team took sixth at nationals. Sophomore Darwin Jimenez, sophomore Kevar Williams, freshman Jalil Cooper and sophomore Ajani Delay completed their run in 39.96 seconds — .76 seconds behind first place South Plains. They broke into the finals after posting a time of 39.87 for fifth place in the prelims. Jimenenz also took second in the 100-meter dash in 10.38, followed by Deley for fifth in 10.49.
