Crest seniors Peyton Schmidt and Josie Walter continue to provide the Lady Lancers with a 1-2 punch after the pair took fourth and ninth respectively at the Coach Chet Hunter Invitational Thursday in Mound City.
Among the 41 competitors, Schmidt was first among local competitors, coming in 5 seconds shy of clearing the course in under 20 minutes.
Walter, hot off taking second at the Humboldt Invitational Monday, was less than a minute off Schmidt’s time, finishing in 20:43. Senior Aubrey Allen snagged the final medal for area runners, taking 19th place in 21:40. Sophomore Kallei Robb took 28th in 22:46. Marmaton Valley senior Sophia Heim finished 40th in 25:35.
In boys varsity action, Brayden Endicott followed up his eighth-place finish in Humboldt with 13th place. He cleared the course in 17:31. But he wasn’t the only area runner with a sub-20-minute 5K, as Crest freshman Dagon Denny just missed the medal podium, taking 21st place in 18:08. Denny’s fellow freshman teammate Wyatt Francis took 54th place in 21:24 and freshman Lukas Blaufuss took 58th in 25:23.
