The Humboldt Middle School Cubs continued league play on Monday by hosting Neodesha and the Cubs lost all but one game.
The eighth-grade boys lost 35-24.
“Neodesha is a very tall team with guards that can really shoot the ball,” head coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We struggled with that.  We could have been a little more efficient on the offensive end but we weren’t bad.”
Drew Wilhite had nine points, Evan Lucke had six points, Gavin Page had five points, Ethan Doepke had three points and Colton Johnson had one point. Lucke and Johnson each had three rebounds.
The seventh-grade delivered Humboldt’s only win of the evening, beating Neodesha 32-24 in overtime.
The Cubs trailed by two going into the fourth quarter and trailed for the majority. With two seconds to play, Maddox Johnson was fouled and went on to miss both free throws. Johnson rebounded his second miss and was fouled again. Johnson hit both free throws on the second go-around to tie it up. Humboldt outscored Neodesha 6-0 in overtime to get the win.
Johnson had 12 points and four rebounds in the win with Trey Sommer chipping in 11 points and five rebounds.

The C-Team fell 25-11.

“Defensively we didn’t play bad most of the night and had some very good defensive possessions,” head coach Jason Weilert said. “On the offensive end when we ran our offense well and were getting good looks at the basket, but we just had too many unforced turnovers tonight. We gave ourselves a chance at the end with a big 3 from Kirstyn Murrow but just fell a little short.”
The B-game suffered a similar fate with the Lady Cubs falling 19-13. Humboldt only scored two points in both the first and fourth quarters.
Laken Hunter had eight points while Chloe Daniels scored three. Hunter also had seven rebounds while Peyton Galloway had three rebounds. Daniels also had three steals.
