HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt boys basketball team used a big third quarter to whip Neodesha 69-54 Tuesday night.
“It was nip and tuck in the first half, our on-ball defense wasn’t very good,” Humboldt coach David Taylor said.
After coming out of halftime clinging to a 29-27 lead, the Cubs out-scored Neodesha 25-14 in the third quarter for a 13-point lead and a 15-point win.
Rayce Hoepker was the Cubs’ leading scorer with 26 points and Bo Bigelow continued his recent stretch of strong play with 13 points.
“He is catching it in rhythm and not hesitating and that’s good,” Taylor said.
Daylon Splane had a well-rounded game from the point guard spot with 12 points, six assists and six steals.
Lady Cubs prevail
Aricah McCall hit a three-pointer from the right corner with 31 seconds left Tuesday night to lift Humboldt’s varsity girls to victory over Neodesha.
The Blue Streaks had a 38-36 lead when McCall performed her heroics. She added a free throw seconds later for the final tally of 40-38.
Humboldt and Neodesha had traded the lead often before McCall stepped up. Tilar Wells connected three times on threes at critical points in the game.
