A week after winning the men’s triple jump at the Missouri Southern State University’s indoor track meet, Allen County Community College’s J’Vente Deveaux set a school record competing at the University of Arkansas Tyson Invitational.
At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., last weekend Deveaux placed fourth. The sophomore from Nassau, Bahamas, had a leap of 53 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Deveaux won the event at MSSU at 51’3/4”, which qualified him for the NJCAA national indoor meet.
Weldon Paul formerly had the ACCC men’s indoor triple jump mark at 49’2”, set in 1996.
Sophomores Bryant Terry, John Thurston and Trent Huling combined with freshman DeMario Johnson for an ACCC indoor record at the Arkansas meet. The foursome ran the 4×400-meter relay race in 3 minutes, 15.77 seconds. That was good for 17th place
The previous time in the 4×400 was 3:22.75 set in 2007 by Bryce Johnson, Josh Gomez, Chase Bradley and Philip Redrick.
Terry, Huling and Thurston ran with Darlyn Bennett at Missouri Southern Feb. 5. They were second in 3:23.99 in the 4×400 while the team of Johnson, Kyran Stewart, Jesse Jenkins and Brandon Miller was 13th in 3:32.34.
Huling posted a national meet qualifying time in winning the 200-meter dash in 22.13 seconds at Missouri State. Abraham Walker and Chris Henry were 10th and 11th in the 200 meters, in 22.88 seconds and 22.92 seconds.
Staying at the MSSU meet, Stewart finished second in the 60-meter dash in 6.96 seconds. Huling was fifth in 7.04 with Johnson in sixth at 7.06 seconds.
Terry was 12th in the 400-meter dash in 51.83 seconds.
Brandon Smith placed ninth in the 600-yard run in 1:17.23. Travis Kite was 41st in the 3,000-meter run in 10:39.56.
Travis Venniro was 14th in the shot put with a throw of 41’6”. DeAndre Speed took 22nd at 34’3”.
Allen County’s women also competed at Missouri Southern. Akilah Threadgill had the top performance of the meet, taking 17th in the long jump at 15’7”. Rackell Goldson was 22nd at 14’11 1/4”.
Bridget Sears was 18th in the shot put with a toss of 32’8 1/2”.
Nakita Casey was 18th in the 60-meter dash in 8.27 seconds with Kasie House in 26th in 8.69 seconds.
Casey was 20th in the 200 meters in 28.06 seconds and House was 25th at 29.56 seconds. Audre’Ahna Harris placed 33rd in the 60-meter hurdles in 12.89 seconds.
Allen County athletes will compete at the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI Indoor Track Meet Sunday at Kansas State in Manhattan.
