BURDEN — Uniontown High’s Abbie Smith is a double Class 2A regional event champion. Smith defended her regional titles in the 100-meter high hurdles and in the long jump.
Smith also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles for this coming weekend’s 2010 Kansas State High School All-Class Track and Field Championships.
Smith is among 10 athletes from Uniontown, Humboldt and Marmaton Valley High who qualified for the state meet in Class 2A competition. The three area schools competed in a Class 2A regional Friday hosted by Central Burden High School.
The top four finishers in each event advance to state.
Smith won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 51⁄4 inches. She captured the gold in the high hurdles in 15.62 seconds and was third in the 300-meter low hurdles in 50.5 seconds.
Uniontown’s Jacy Ermel qualified for the state in two events. She was second in the shot put with a toss of 34’63⁄4” and fourth in the discus at 96’4”.
The only state qualifier from Humboldt High was Raquel Hill. Hill ran fourth in the 3200-meter run in 13 minutes, 22.9 seconds.
Hill missed out going in the 1600-meter race. She was fifth in 6:13 and Uniontown’s Jessica Schaaf was sixth in 6:29.61.
Humboldt’s 4×800-meter relay team of Hill, Michaela Bartlett, Kelsey Cramer and Brandi Malloy finished seventh in 12:30. Malloy was 11th in the 400-meter dash in 1:12.14.
Humboldt’s Whitney Strack placed seventh in the long jump at 13’11”. Marmaton Valley’s Mercedes Trollope was 10th at 13’51⁄4”. Trollope took 10th in the triple jump, 29’51⁄2”.
Ermel placed fifth in the javelin at 94’8”. Humboldt’s Desi Churning and Darrah Tinkler were sixth and 11th, respectively, at 83’8” and 62’10”.
ON THE BOYS’ SIDE, Marmaton Valley High’s Zack Louk qualified in the 1600-meter run. He was third in 4:50.08. Kurtis LaRue was third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 42.19 seconds.
Tanner McNutt, Marmaton Valley, qualified with a third-place run in the 400-meter dash in 52.51. He also is going to state in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’8”.
LaRue and McNutt combined with Shawn Storrer and Daylon Houk to qualify in the 4×400-meter relay race. They ran fourth in 3:41.50.
Uniontown’s Trenton Miller is headed to state in the discus. Miller was fourth at the regional with
a throw of 130 feet.
Also Uniontown’s Ben Dixon took fourth in the long jump, 20’ 1⁄2”, to qualify. Humboldt’s Hayden Boring was 10th in the event at 16’10”.
Dixon placed seventh in the 200-meter dash in 24.44 and was eighth in the 400 in 55.11 seconds. Seth Sympson was eighth in the 800-meter run in 2L13.73 and Zach Travis was 10th in the javelin, 116’7”.
Marmaton Valley’s Louk placed fifth in the 3200-meter run in 10:50.71 and seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:08.70.
Storrer was eighth in the javelin at 130’4” and 13th in the 300 hurdles in 48.21. Josh Kale was 15th in the shot put, 34’43⁄4”. LaRue was seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.10.
The Wildcat 4×100-meter relay team of Skyler Houk, LaRue, Carlos Gonzales and D. Houk was ninth in 47.81 seconds.
Humboldt’s Jarred Barr was ninth in the 3200, 11:29.65, and fifth in the 1600 meters, 5:07.64. Reece Criger took 11th in the 300 hurdles in 47.18 seconds.
The Cubs’ 4×800-meter relay team of Barr, Boring, Criger and Jacob Jones was ninth in 9:18.87.
