WELLSVILLE — In Wednesday’s Iola Register, the score of the Fillies’ freshmen game at Wellsville was incorrect.
The Fillies defeated the Eagles 34-30, in large part due to a 17-0 spurt to start the game.
The Eagles answered that with a 14-2 run to tighten the game a 19-14.
The game remained close for the rest of regulation with Wellsville pulling within 28-24, but Iola was able to maintain that lead and secure the four-point victory.
“We definitely finished the season with a big win,” Iola freshmen coach Chris Weide said. “Wellsville is probably the best team we played all year. It took all 12 girls, playing their best basketball, to get the win.”
This wraps up a successful season that saw the team finish second in both the Anderson County and Fort Scott tournaments.
“It will be a lot of fun seeing how good this group of girls can be,” Weide said.
