Four Mat Warriors move on

PITTSBURG — Allen County Kids Wrestling Club’s Mat Warriors competed in the 2011 USA Kansas Kids Wrestling’s District I South Sub-District tournament last Saturday. The tournament was held at Pittsburg State University.
Jeremy Ridge at 8-and-under 67 pounds, Andrew Garber at 12-and-under 150 pounds, Seth Sanford at 12-and-under 190 pounds and Stephen McDonald at 189 pounds in the high school division qualified for this Saturday’s District I tournament. There were six Mat Warrior wrestlers at the sub-district tournament.
Ridge finished fourth in his division. He beat Steven Parker of Olathe 9-8 then lost 14-0 to Matthew Vail of SEK Jr. Comets-Chanute.
Ridge came back to beat Cade McConnell of Pittsburg 8-0 to get to the third-place match. He lost 5-0 to Brady McDonald of Chanute.
Garber got a first-round bye then beat Michael Queen of Olathe East 5-0 in the semifinals of his division. Garber was pinned by Peyton Bendure of East Kansas in the championship match.
Sanford was unable to wrestle because of an injury. He was third in his division. Sanford said he hoped to be able to compete at the district tournament.
McDonald opened with a pin of Juwan White of Olathe then was pinned by Billy Teters of Linn County.
McDonald moved to the third-place match by pinning Adolf Matthews of Raider Wrestling. He lost to Alex Stocketon of Gardner-Edgerton 10-8 in overtime.
The District I tournament is Saturday at Olathe East High School.
C.J. Shields lost 8-2 to Copehhagen Browning of Linn County then got a bye in the 8-and-under 64-pound division. Shields lost by a pin to Drew Bollinger of East Kansas.
Josh Wise wrestled at 10-and-under and 76 pounds. He pinned Mason Jameson of Frontenac then was pinned by Jevon Parrison of Oalthe Southside. He lost 9-5 to Kolby Hall of Frontenac.
