After an 0-9 start, the Iola Hormigas seem in a renaissance as they are on a three-game win streak after downing the Santa Fe Fuego Tuesday with a 5-1 win.

Starter Jacob Slocomb picked up the win with four strikeouts over seven innings while reliever Jacob Strobel picked up the save after coming in during the fifth inning and holding the Fuego scoreless through their final at-bat.

Hormigas first baseman Devin Radar and catcher Nicholas Chavez tied for the team-lead in RBIs with the pair driving in three each while successful in 2 of 5 at-bats. Outfielder Zachary Trangmar, Radar and Chaves tied for the team lead in hits with two each.

With the win, the Hormigas improved to 7-14, just half a game away from leapfrogging Trinidad from last place in the Mountain North League standings. A win Wednesday would put the Hormigas third in the wildcard playoff standings. They could make some progress in capturing one of two wildcard spots Thursday, Friday and Saturday with games slated against the Blackwell Flycatchers, then wrap up the month hosting the Garden City Wind for a three-game series beginning at Satchell Paige Stadium in Kansas City Sunday and return to Alumni Field at Allen Community College Monday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
