Following an 0-9 start, the Iola Hormigas are on their first win streak of the 2025 season after downing the Trinidad Triggers 9-2.
Winner of four of their last six games, the Hormigas’ nine unanswered runs powered past the Triggers with Trinidad’s late two-run rally falling well short of the mark Monday.
Starter Colin Sepulveda picked up the win. Sepulveda tallied six strikeouts in the complete-game effort with six walks while also hitting in 2 of 4 at-bats.
Third baseman Devin Radar’s fourth home run of the season gave him the edge for the team lead in RBIs with three, followed by outfielder Ramses Velazquez and first baseman David Hendrick with two each. Velazquez also tied catcher Nicholas Chavez for the team lead in hits with three each while driving in his fourth home run of the season.
Second baseman Antuan Franco drove in his second homer of the season while successful in 1 of 4 at-bats.
With the win, the Hormigas improved to 6-14 and could leapfrog the Triggers from the bottom of the Mountain North Conference standings and fourth place in the run for a wildcard spot in the postseason.
Following Wednesday’s game against Trinidad, the Hormigas head on the road for a trio of games against Blackwell, then wrap up the month hosting the Garden City Wind for a three-game series beginning at Satchell Paige Stadium in Kansas City Sunday, then coming to Alumni Field at Allen Community College Monday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
