FREDONIA — Humboldt Middle School’s girl’s basketball teams won both of their games against Fredonia Monday.
The A-Team won, 43-19.
Even so, coach Scott Brady saw room for improvement.
“We really didn’t play well tonight,” he said. “The girls didn’t have school and were coming off winter break, it wasn’t our best performance to say the least.”
Maggie Johnson led the team with 13 points and swiped the ball six times on defense. Winter Lohmann followed with 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Kaylie Johnson and Emma Johnson each scored six points. Aricah McCall scored five points, with six steals and five assists. Sadie Houk scored a basket and Alayna Johnson scored a free throw.
The B-Team won, 28-20. Tori White led the team with eight points. Sydney Barker followed with six points. Melanie Hallacy scored four points and had five steals. Sadie Houk scored four points. Zoey Rinehart, Emma Johnson and Ashlynn Booth each scored two points.

THE EIGHTH-GRADE boys team beat Fredonia, 29-25.
“We came out sluggish,” coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We were down six after the first quarter and five at halftime. We outscored them 15-2 in the third quarter. Our defensive intensity picked up and we were able to get some easy buckets in transition.”
Dylan Doolittle led the Cubs with nine points and four steals. Caleb Coronado and Bo Bigelow each scored six points. Tucker Hurst scored three points and grabbed five rebounds, while Teryn Johnson scored two points and grabbed four rebounds. Kyler Allen scored two points and Logan Grey made a free throw.
The seventh-grade boys fell, 28-16.
“We played a great first half,” Weilert said. “We just couldn’t match their intensity in the third quarter.”
Josh Hull led the team with three points. Conor Haviland, Logan Dillow, Jackson Aikins, Cooper Jaro, Speed Hoepker and Gunner Elder each scored two points. Drake Hottenstein made a free throw.
