Monday’s Humboldt junior varsity football team’s win required a bit of maneuvering after their originally scheduled opponent was too injured to field a team.
Instead of watching the Humboldt JV take on Eureka, Cubs fans watched their team defeat Neodesha 14-12.
Trailing 6-0 early, quarterback Riley Lassman found receiver Kolton Hanson from 12 yards out. Humboldt then took a 14-6 lead after linebacker Tucker Wrestler scored the game-winning touchdown after blocking a punt and returning the loose ball to the end zone.
Lassman ended the evening completing 7 of 12 passes for one touchdown. Running back Zane Sanchez had a team-leading 40 yards rushing on four carries, followed by Envy Oberbeck 21 yards on 14 carries.
Defensively, Hanson and Oberbeck tied for the team lead in tackles with three each, but Oberbeck also had a sack and a fumble recovery. Sanchez had two tackles and an interception.
