If you have been experiencing withdrawl sym-ptoms from lack of basketball, Iola has a great weekend on tap July 9-10.
For the second year, the Iola High Booster Club is hosting the Iola Summer Shootout, a Mid-American Youth Basketball tournament.
The tournament will feature boys and girls basketball teams, mainly middle school- and high school- aged teams.
“This is the only tournament our Iola girls’ team plays in,” said Becky Carlson, Iola High girls’ head basketball coach. “The more basketball you play the better you get, as with anything.”
Carlson said youth have a lot of activities during summer such as volleyball, softball “and possibily a job. I encourage them to stay active and play as much as possible but to enjoy their summer.”
The tournament begins at 4 p.m. Friday, July 9, with games played in the Iola High School and Iola Middle School gyms. There will be games all day Saturday, July 10.
Mark Kauth, one of the tournament’s directors, said there are two Iola boys teams entered. One is an eighth-grade level team and  the other is the Iola High School team.
Registeration for the tournament is through the MAYB office, 316-284-0354, or online at mayb.com.
Team and individual awards will be given for first and second place in each age group.
Concessions will be available at each gym.
