LEBO — Iola’s Post 15’s junior American Legion baseball squad had a tough go of it Monday as the Indians wrapped up the regular season with a 14-1 loss to the Lebo Royals.
The loss drops Iola to 4-12 as the Indians head to Pittsburg Thursday to open the KALB 17U State Tournament, at Jaycee Ballpark.
Iola will open the double-elimination tournament at 5:30 p.m. against Topeka. The winnerMOVES to Friday’s quarterfinal round, playing either Pittsburg or Wellsville at about 3:30 p.m. The loser falls to the elimination bracket, and will play at 10:30 a.m. Friday against the Pittsburg-Wellsville loser.
The tournament runs through Sunday.
THE INDIANS got off to a good enough start in Monday’s regular season finale.
Cade Curry led off the top of the first with a walk. He stole second and scored on Austin Campbell’s two-out single.
But Lebo tied the score in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of three walks and a wild pitch, and then took control with a five-run second inning and six-run third.
Meanwhile, the Indians were limited to two hits on the day, singles by Campbell and Jaxen Mueller, while committing five errors.
Four Iola pitchers each got in an inning of work.
Braylon Keithly struck out three and allowed no hits. Ty Thomas surrendered three hits with a strikeout. Campbell also allowed three hits while striking out two. Mueller surrendered two hits with a strikeout.
