High School Softball: Lady Lancers 15, Lady Patriots 14
The Crest Lady Lancers grabbed their first regional victory in program history Monday night after a 15-14 win over fifth-seeded West Elk in the 2-1A Leon-Bluestem High School regional.
The fourth-seeded Lady Lancers got off to a big 12-5 lead after the first three innings before a 30-minute weather delay in the middle of the fourth inning cut their momentum.
Crest extended its lead to 13-5 with a run in the bottom of the fifth but the Lady Patriots came back swinging, scoring eight runs in the next three innings to tie things up at 14. West Elk scored again in the top of the eighth to take a 14-13 lead.
With their backs against the wall, the Lancers freshman Aubrey Holloran followed up a leadoff walk with a double to put runners on second and third. Senior Makayla Jones came in and cleaned up the bases, hitting a single that scored both runs and won the game.
Jones led the Lady Lancers with two of Crests eight hits.
The Lady Lancers will see the difficulty ratcheted up tonight when they take on one-seed Flinthills for a spot in the regional championship. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
