YATES CENTER — Marmaton Valley completed a Wildcat-over-Wildcat sweep Thursday, winning 13-0 and 10-3 against host Yates Center.
Tyler Lord tossed a five-inning no-hitter in Game 1.
Thomas Allee was nearly as dominant in the nightcap, striking out 10 over six innings in a 10-3 victory.
The sweep lifts Marmaton Valley to 17-4 with a single game slated next week at Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan to wrap up the regular season.
Yates Center (6-14) travels Tuesday to Marais des Cygnes Valley and to Eureka Thursday to finish off its schedule. Class 2-1A regional action for both begins May 14.
Lord pitched to one batter over the minimum in his 79-pitch masterpiece, striking out nine and walking two.
Meanwhile, Marmaton ton Valley put its first seven batters on base in the top of the second.
Despite only gathering one hit, a leadoff single from Todd Stevenson, Marmaton Valley took advantage of three walks, two hit batters and an error to claim a quick 7-0 lead.
Kris McVey’s RBI single in the third pushed the lead to eight before Lane Lord delivered a two-run single in the fourth.
Garrett Morrison followed with an RBI single, and Brevyn Campbell made it 12-0 with a sac fly. Kris McVey notched another RBI single in the fifth.
Tyler Lord singled twice, while Lane Lord, Garrett Morrison, Stevenson, Chris Ferguson, Kris McVey, Brendon Newman, Allee and Kaden McVey all had singles.
Shane Shield allowed two hits, while Gavin Riles pitched three innings of relief for Yates Center, surrendering seven hits with two strikeouts. Braxtyn Rutherford pitched a hitless inning of relief, allowing one hit.
LANE Lord’s sacrifice fly drove home Tyler Lord to start Marmaton Valley’s scoring in the nightcap. Tyler Lord drove in a run in the top of the third, and then scored on Alle’s ground ball to make it 3-0.
Ben Cook put Yates Center on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.
Marmaton Valley wasn’t much interested in letting Yates Center get any closer. Kris McVey led off the fourth with a single, stole a base and scored on Newman’s base hit to make it 4-1;
Lane Lord doubled in Kooper Welch in the top of the fifth and scored on Morrison’s grounder for a 6-1 advantage. The lead swelled by another run when Stevenson singled and scored on Lane Lord’s hit in the sixth.
