The Marmaton Valley High School Wildcats’ dominance of the Three Rivers League continues following a 46-0 victory over the Yates Center Wildcats last Friday.

In a battle for the namesake, the MVHS Wildcats proved to be the better team after scoring all their 46 points in the first half, pumping their brakes in the second half for a second consecutive TRL victory.

Junior running back Cooper Scharff accounted for all but 42 of Marmaton Valley’s 175 yards on the ground, averaging 19 yards per carry with four touchdowns. Senior quarterback Tyler Lord nearly surpassed Scharff’s offensive production with 121 yards passing and two touchdowns, completing 8 of 14 attempts. Lord also had 22 yards rushing on three carries.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, MVHS senior linebacker Brevyn Campbell accounted for a team-leading five solo tackles while leading the Wildcats in total tackles with nine, followed closely by Lord who had eight while playing safety. Todd Stevenson showed off his talents from both sides of the line with a team-leading four receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns while also accounting for an interception, which tied Lord for the team lead with one each.

With the win, the Marmaton Valley Wildcats remain undefeated at 2-0 and are also undefeated in the TRL at 2-0 following last week’s Oswego blowout. The Yates Center Wildcats fall to 0-2 after falling in their opener to Crest.

Marmaton Valley will host the 1-1 Northeast Vikings, who upset Crest last Friday. Yates Center hopes to pick up their first win next week on the road at St. Paul, who sits at 1-1 after mauling Northeast in their opener 52-18 but fell to Oswego 65-18 last Friday.

Kickoff for both contests is 7 p.m. Friday.
