MORAN — Visiting Lebo High made things tough on Marmaton Valley on the hardwood Tuesday evening.

In girls play, the Wolves unleashed their powerful defense in the second half and came away with a 50-32 victory.

For the boys, Lebo’s Grayson Shoemaker parlayed a 22-point night into Lebo’s 68-47 victory.

Marmaton Valley (9-4) doesn’t have much time to mope. The Wildcats will play twice more this week, first on Thursday at Crest and then at home Friday against Yates Center.

In Tuesday’s girls contest, Lebo broke out of the gates quickly, leading 14-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Marmaton Valley responded in the second quarter, receiving two buckets each from Piper Barney, Payton Scharff and Maria Forero to close the gap to 22-19. But the Wolves clamped down on defense after the break, extending their lead to 36-27 by the onset of the fourth period.

Scharff and Barney scored 10 and eight points, respectively, to lead Marmaton Valley. The  Wildcats’ leading scorers, Janae Granere and Forero, scored five and four points against Lebo, respectively.

Lebo also prevailed, 36-14, in a junior varsity contest.

Taylen Blevins and Andie Carr scored five points apiece for the Wildcat JV. Gabby Briggs scored two; Sophia Heim and Morgan Leer both had a free throw.

MARMATON Valley’s boys (4-9) had a little better of a time scoring points.

Problem was, so did Lebo.

The Wolves led 19-14 after one quarter and 35-24 at the break. The lead swelled to 53-36 by the start of the fourth period.

Tyler Lord was Marmaton Valley’s offensive catalyst with 16 points. Chase Smith and Brayden Lawson added nine points each. Daniel Fewins scored seven.

Marmaton Valley won the junior varsity contest, 44-29. Domonic Smith scored 12 and Cooper Scharff 10 for the Wildcat JV. Kele Michael chipped in with six. Brendon Newman and Dagan Barney added four apiece. Brevyn Campbell scored three, while Garrett Morrison and Emilio Retana each had two.
