LEBO — Marmaton Valley is looking to put Friday’s 46-0 loss to Lebo in the rearview mirror.

The Wolves shut down the Wildcats (5-2) by halftime.

The Wildcats still have a chance to secure the Three Rivers League title with a win over St. Paul at home this Friday.

“One of our biggest goals is to win the league. That hasn’t been done since 2012,” said Marmaton Valley football head coach Max Mickunas.

Lebo scored its opening touchdown on a 19-yard pass, followed by the two-point conversion for the 8-0 lead.

The Lebo defense then recovered a fumble and took over at the 30-yard line.

The Wolves scored when they connected for a 20-yard passing touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion for the 16-0 advantage.

“Their quarterback threw the ball very well. We knew who the guys were that could hurt us and our coverage was not where it needed to be,” said Mickunas. “We didn’t play very well. We had our eyes in the backfield and we didn’t get to the quarterback.”

In the second quarter Lebo connected on a 39-yard touchdown pass, followed by a two-point conversion for the 24-0 difference.

The Wildcats turned the ball over again on downs at their own 32-yard line which set up Lebo for a 32-yard touchdown pass and the 30-0 lead.

“I thought Lebo played very well and I thought it was the best they played all year,” Mickunas said. “I told the team we were going to get their best effort and that we needed to bring our best effort. I thought our toughness and our attention to detail, our overall effort and intensity was not where it needed to be.”

Lebo’s Corey Reese hauled in a touchdown pass, followed by a two-point conversion for the 38-0 Marmaton Valley deficit.

Marmaton Valley was picked off by a Lebo defender which they returned to the the MV 36-yard line with three minutes left in the half.

Lebo’s final score came in the form of a 35-yard pick six, followed by a two-point conversion for the 46-0 MV deficit and final score.

“We are looking forward to hosting St. Paul for a chance at a league championship,” said Mickunas. “We want to put Lebo behind us. I think these guys will respond, they always do. After our loss to Sunrise Christian, we won three straight games in a row. They know we have a great opportunity in front of us and I think we’ll be ready to go on Friday.”
