Mustangs continue tennis season at Neodesha tourney

INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s boys tennis team’s season continued at Neodesha’s tournament in Independence on Saturday.
Isaiah Fawson played as Iola’s no. 1 singles player. He went 1-2 on the day. In his first match, Fawson was down 6-3 to Maranatha’s Grant Swank. Fawson came back to tie it up and forced an extra set, but lost. Swank ended up coming in first place. Fawson’s 8-5 win came against Indy’s Cortland Cox.
Glen Thomas played as Iola’s no. 2 singles player for the day, going 1-2 for third place. He beat Maranatha’s Jin Ho Yoo in his first match 8-2.
For doubles, Mason Key and Rhett Allen went 2-1 on the day in no. 1 doubles play. They went 2-0 during the round-robin matchups, but lost in the championship to Immaculata’s Adam Habib and Hunter Patton 8-3 for second place.
Coach Dan Berg said he was proud of everyone’s performance during the day, and thought that all four players should have won medals.
The team travels to Coffeyville on Thursday, where they will also play Columbus, Parsons and Pittsburg.
