MVJH teams fall to Westphalia

MORAN – Marmaton Valley Junior High’s girls and boys found tough going at home Monday night.
The Wildcat girls faltered in the second half after trailing Westphalia 22-19 at halftime. The Wildcats only scored four more points and Westphalia notched a 40-23 win.
“We were out hustled. We played a good first half then were shut down in the second half,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH girls’ head coach.
Mackenzie Tynon tossed in 14 points for the Wildcat girls. Lindz McNeil added eight and Kyla Drake scored one point.
In the girls’ B-team game, Westphalia pulled out a 15-14 win over Marmaton Valley. Drake paced Marmaton Valley with seven points while Misty Storrer added five and Magie Stevenson had two points.
Marmaton Valley’s boys had a very slow start, down 23-7 at halftime. Westphalia kept moving forward not allowing the Wildcats to come back. Westphalia won 48-29.
Keagan Boyd fired in 12 points for the Wildcats and Gage Adams chipped in 11 points. Chad Starliper had six points.
“The game was close at the end of the first quarter (10-5) but we couldn’t buy a basket in the second quarter,” said Arlyn Briggs. MVJH boys’ head coach. “We lacked concentration and shot poorly in the paint.”
Westphalia won the B-team boys’ game 37-15. Cody Wilson and Dane Myers each had four points for Marmaton Valley. Jake Wise scored three while Jake Kale and Tony Jefferis each had two points.
