Regardless of who finishes higher in the 2025 3A state golf tournament, area fans win in the end because they get another year of watching Humboldt freshman Connor Newman and Iola junior Brennen Coffield go head-to-head.
After day one of the KSHSAA golf championship Tuesday at the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Newman was two strokes ahead of Coffield on the leaderboard and one over par for the par 72 course.
Newman, who came in as the regional champion, continued dominating in his state tournament debut and sits in fourth place after day one. He qualified for day two of the competition after carding a 73.
Coffield, meanwhile, sits in ninth place after carding a 75, three over par. The top 18 players made the cut to participate in Wednesday’s final day of action.
