Ponies win IMS Invitational

Three strokes separated the top three golfers in Wednesday’s Iola Middle School Invitational.
Matt Percy of Central Heights captured the top medalist spot with a 36 for the nine-hole event. Percy is the son of Iola High baseball head coach Mark Percy.
Iola’s Kaden Macha ended up second with a 38 on his home course. The Ponies took three of the top 10 medals and won the team championship.
Nick Becker of Coffeyville’s Roosevelt Middle School carded a 39 for third place.  Shane Walden of Iola finished with a 42 to take fourth.
Troy Reeves of Chanute’s Royster Middle School and Iola’s Isaiah Grover both shot 44s. Reeves earned fifth and Grover was sixth.
Macha, Walden and Grover combined with Drake Dieker, who carded a 48, for a team total of 172. That was 10 strokes better than second-place Coffeyville, 182. Royster was third with a 188.
Other Iola boys’ scores were: Adam Peterson with a 50 and Matt Jacobs with a 51.
Other medalists were: 7. Calvin Hugo, Independence, 45; 8. Dylan Funk, Royster, 46; 9. Cutter Boone, Royster, 47; 10. Mitchell Reitz, Coffeyville, 47.
In the girls’ division, Iola’s Taylor Sell carded a 58 to place third. Rachel White of Independence shot a 51 and Trystyan Stanislaus of Royster had a 57.
Madison Stanley of Jayhawk-Linn was fourth at 63. Brittany Palet of Royster was fifth with a 67.
There were 62 golfers competing in the IMS Invitational.
The Ponies go to Independence Monday.
