SALINA — Eleven for eleven.
Allen County Community College’s Red Devils used 11 hits to score 11 runs in the fourth inning of the second game Tuesday against host Brown Mackie College. The Red Devils won the game 17-5 in five innings.
Allen County halted a four-game skid with a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader with Brown Mackie. The Red Devils outlasted Brown Mackie 9-7 in a seven-inning contest then took the second game.
Tanner Wittman was credited with both pitching victories. He came on in relief in the first game to pitch the seventh inning. A three-run home run by Riley Price, who was 4-for-5 in the game, broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the inning.
Brown Mackie used two doubles to score a run in the bottom of the seventh. Wittman struck out the side to end the game following give up the hits and the run.
Wittman started on the mound for the Red Devils in the second game. He worked two innings, giving up four runs on six hits, one walk and one hit batter. He had two strikeouts. Travis Stafford pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk plus had five strikeouts, which included striking out the side in the bottom of the fifth with two men on base.
Allen County (8-14) was to have played at Seminole, Okla., Thursday but the single game has been postponed. It is expected to be rescheduled later this season.
The Red Devils take a 2-10 Jayhawk Eastern Division record into a four-game conference series this Saturday and Sunday at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park.
In the first game at Brown Mackie, the Red Devils tied the score at 2-2 when Nick Fountain hit a two-run home run in the third inning. They added three runs in the fourth to go up 5-3 and had a 6-4 lead until Brown Mackie scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up.
With two gone in the seventh, Kaleb Hoffman singled and Stafford drew a walk. Price, who had three singles in earlier at-bats, connected for the home run.
Fountain had a single in the game while Bryce Williams and Michael Schell each had a single and a double. Brad Alberts doubled. Curtiss Bunch, Hoffman and Stafford each had a base hit.
Brandon Spear was the first-game starting pitcher for ACCC. He worked four innings and gave up four runs on five hits and three walks plus struck out six. Eric Seymour pitched two innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout.
The Red Devils had 19 hits in the second game. They built a 6-4 lead through three innings. Williams had a two-run double in the second and led off the big fourth inning with a double. Garret Hess drove in a run in the third on a double and two more runs in the fourth on a double.
In the 11-run fourth, Schell hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, and had an RBI single to go along with another single earlier in the game. Price had three singles, one was a two-run hit in the fourth.
Fountain delivered a single and a triple, driving in two runs in the fourth. Seymour had three singles and Kyle Johnston singled.
