Seven scholarships were given out — four to area students — during Tuesday’s 2010 SEK Catbackers event here in Iola.
A scholarship drawing was held for 2010 high school graduates and community college transfers who attended the banquet and auction. The SEK Catbackers Club gave six $250 scholarships.
K-State Alumni Association gave the Colonel Foster scholarship, which was for $300. It went to Glendolyn Neely of Humboldt.
Receiving the SEK Catbackers scholarships were Chris Harrington and Alec Peterson of Iola, Mary Hauser of Humboldt, Chelz VanGotten, Chanute, Brock Brunick of Mulberry and Alex Brull of Atchinson, who was an Allen County Community College student.
There were 18 students attending the event. The SEK Catbackers raised $25,000 for K-State’s  Ahearn Fund, which provides scholarships for student-athletes and capital improvements for K-State athletics.
