EMPORIA — Southern Coffey County High’s Titans and Lady Titans found ways to capture third place in their respective divisions of Saturday’s Lyon County League tournament.
The SCCH teams dropped their semifinal games Friday. The Lady Titans lost to Madison 51-49 and the Titans lost 37-34 to Waverly.
On Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium, the Lady Titans opened with a 12-5 run on Lebo and never let up, winning 54-39.
The Titans took third by staying right with Burlingame throughout the first three quarters. Burlingame led 23-22 at halftime and 34-32 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Titans outscored the Bearcats 24-14 to win 56-48.
The Lady Titans got 14 points from Shelby Birk. Kristen Garland and Laurie Ohl each had 11 points against Lebo. No other statistics were available.
For the Titans, Chyler Ludolph led the way with 14 points. Aaron Ludolph added 12. No other statistics were available.
In Friday’s semifinal showdown with Madison, the Lady Bulldogs led through most of the game, up 21-20 at halftime. A three-pointer by Chelcie Shankie with 2.5 seconds to play in the game allowed the Bulldogs to re-gain the lead.
A half-court shot by Garland at the buzzer came up short. Ohl had 16 points for SCCH and Kaitlin Meyer had 15 points and eight rebounds. Birk had three assists.
Southern Coffey County’s girls (11-3) have a chance to avenge the loss Friday when Madison goes to LeRoy in regular season play against the Titan teams.
