OSAWATOMIE — The competition is heating up as the Allen County Wrestling Club continues to thrive as the 2013 season hits high gear.
“The competition is getting tougher,” Coach John Taylor said after several area wrestlers brought home top-four finishes Sunday at the Osawatomie Open.
“Our kids performed well and are using what they have learned in practice,” Taylor said. “Every coach wants to see the kids use the tools we have given them, regardless of the win or loss.”
The wrestling club will continue to make weekly road trips until hosting their own competition in Iola March 2 at Iola High School.
“We encourage everyone in our community to come out to see how well these kids are doing,” Taylor said. “I promise, you won’t be disappointed.”
Placing first in their respective divisions Sunday were Curt Shannon, Connor Sallee, Korbin Cloud, T.J. Taylor, Alejandro Vargas and Trenton Jones.
Runner-up finishers were Zander Reed and Adam Atwell.
Taking third were Ryan West, Clay Shannon and Logan Brown.
Creed Shannon and Gage Scheibmeir nabbed fourth-place finishes.
