Pastor Steve Traw’s sermon Sunday, “With David at Ziklag,” came from 1 Samuel 30:1-6. Ziklag was attacked and burned to the ground. The women and children were captured and taken away. When David and his army returned, they thoroughly grieved and turned on David. David turned to the Lord for strength.
Scripture contains all the good and the bad. Overcome the bad by learning from the lessons God has told — his hand will be at work with you. This is what David did when his people were taken. Encouragement comes from the Lord. The Lord doesn’t want you to feel sorry for yourself, but come to him for strength to carry on.
Words of encouragement came from Philippians 4:4. “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, ‘rejoice.’” To overcome disappointment or trouble, three things can help. First, spend time with God. Next, find a scripture and dwell upon it. Lastly, write the word of God upon your heart, meaning to memorize that scripture.
