SAVONBURG — The Kansas Masonic Foundation has partnered with Virginia Lodge No. 315 to donate $500 to the Savonburg Public Library.

Founded in 1896, Virginia Lodge No. 315 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world.

The lodge has 36 active members and supports various community-based organizations and events, including the Elsmore Fourth of July celebration, Elsmore Rural Town Days, Humboldt High School, Marmaton Valley High School, the Savonburg City Library, Savonburg City Park, Savonburg Thrive and Stark Days.

The Lodge Brothers also regularly participate in school functions and local fundraising events.

“The Savonburg Public Library provides a safe environment where people can access reading material to improve themselves, and they also conduct children’s programs for local youth,” Virginia Lodge No. 315 Secretary William Wilson said in a press release. “It’s a worthwhile cause to help keep the library open by helping finance children’s programming, as it allows us to play an active role in the community.”

The donation will be used to support children’s programming and purchase new books for the library.
