Should you apologize for a past emotional affair?

A year ago I had an emotional affair with my son’s soccer coach. I was under the impression his relationship with his wife was on the rocks. At the time, my relationship was less than great with my husband.

Dear Carolyn: A year ago I had an emotional affair with my son’s soccer coach. I was under the impression his relationship with his wife was on the rocks. At the time, my relationship was less than great with my husband.

I went ahead with the secret relationship even after being approached by his wife, who suspected. I brushed it off and said we were just friends. Basically, I lied, and my relationship continued to blossom with the coach.

So now I am okay in my marriage, and feeling less than great about the harm I have caused another family, and my own. I am wondering if it is appropriate to apologize to coach’s wife even after all this time. Would this cause a bigger stir than necessary?
