Garrett Cleaver, 27, is on loan to Allen County from Missouri Department of Correction, to face charges from a Nov. 21 incident in Humboldt.
Cleaver is charged locally with two counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, possession of a deadly weapon by a felon, obstruction, deprivation of property and felony fleeing and eluding.
He is serving a minimum of seven years in prison in Missouri for aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, possessing stolen property, possessing a controlled substance and two counts of resisting arrest.
“We brought him back Thursday,” said Undersheriff Bryan Murphy.
Cleaver is being held here without bond because he is serving time in Missouri. He was arrested Dec. 5 in Springfield, Mo., two weeks after fleeing from officers in rural Allen County.
Cleaver’s troubles locally began the afternoon of Nov. 21 when a Humboldt officer stopped a car on Bridge Street after noticing its occupants weren’t wearing seat belts. Melissa Elder was driving the car.
Cleaver bolted from the car with an assault rifle. The officer gave chase on foot and in a nearby alley was confronted by Cleaver, who then ran back to the car, jumped in and sped away.
Other officers joined the chase, which wove its way 8 miles northeast of Humboldt where Cleaver crashed the car near the intersection of Iowa Road and 2000 Street. He disappeared into timber and brush.
Between then and when he was arrested, Cleaver found his way to Springfield and, with assistance of several tips, was arrested at a motel.
