There’s something for everybody today.

The Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs fishing derby begins at 8 a.m. at Abbott’s Pond at the intersection of Miller and Cottonwood.

“Walk With a Doc” begins at 9 a.m. at the entrance of Allen County Regional Hospital. Participants can take a stroll with Dr. Brian Wolfe. It’s the inaugural event planned for the fourth Saturday of the month to encourage healthy outdoor activity. Wolfe will give a short talk on a health-related topic and then lead the walk around the hospital grounds, which includes unpaved and uneven surfaces so be prepared. Children and friendly dogs (on a leash) are welcome, too. The event is sponsored by ACRH.

Later today, candidates running for state and federal offices will gather for a forum from 2 p.m. to 4 pm. At the Iola High School commons area. The format will differ from previous forums, with candidates positioned at tables to allow for group discussions. Expected are candidates for governor, state representatives and Congress. The event is sponsored by Allen County Farm Bureau. For more information call Debbie Bearden at 620-228-3069.
