Iola city crews were out en masse before dawn today in an attempt to plow away more than a quarter-inch of ice that shuttered schools across southeast Kansas and made travel miserable for everyone. The brutal cold temperatures are forecast to remain through Friday.
Temperatures could get back into the 30s and 40s by Friday, although another round of rain or snow could be back in the area on Monday and Tuesday, forecasters said.
