Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs with ham, fresh fruit and drinks will be the fare offered Wednesday morning as the first in a series of Lenten breakfasts offered by Iola churches.
First Presbyterian, the corner of Madison and Buckeye streets, is the first host of the 7 a.m. gatherings.
Members throughout the community are invited to attend and share the meal as well as a brief message of Christ’s love. Wednesday’s gathering will be followed by an Ash Wednesday service, including the marking of ashes on a person’s forehead if they so desire.
The following churches have signed up to host a Lenten breakfast:
Feb. 20 – Covenant of Faith Christian Center and Ward Chapel AME at the New Community Building in Riverside Park.
Feb. 27 – First Christian Church
March 6 – Calvary Methodist Church
March 13 – St. John’s Catholic Church
March 20 – First Baptist Church
March 29 – Good Friday services will be at noon at a location to be determined.
