NEOSHO COUNTY — A Uniontown man is behind bars in connection with a murder that occurred in Stark on Saturday.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced in a press release Sunday the arrest of Luke Shepard, 45, Uniontown, for the first-degree murder of Scott Stevens, 65, Stark.
According to the press release, Neosho County sheriff’s deputies were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of South Washington Street in Stark shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, where they found blood on the front porch. They then found Stevens’s body.
The investigation led officers to identifying Shepard as the suspect, the KBI reported.
Shepard, who had reportedly fled the scene, was arrested by Bourbon County sheriff’s deputies at his home in Uniontown without incident.
Shepard was transported to the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office and booked on suspicion of first-degree murder. Formal charges are pending.
The KBI’s crime scene response team, which was called to the scene Saturday evening, assisted with the investigation.
