INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (AP) — A Coffeyville man has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for 25 years for the killing of a woman in Independence.

Benjamin Mason, 20, was sentenced Tuesday in Montgomery County District Court for first-degree murder.

He pleaded no contest in December to first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Kimberly Meeks.

Investigators said Meeks was shot from a passing car on Dec. 14, 2019, while she was walking with another man along Main Street in Independence.
