A wind farm in northeast Allen County is moving closer to reality. In September EDP Renewals is expected to hand a proposal to county planners for construction of an electrical substation near the Allen-Bourbon counties line.
At Tuesday’s commission meeting, Alan Weber, county counselor, asked for a 10-minute executive session to discuss, under client-attorney privilege, particulars of EDP’s proposal to place turbines on a 15,000-acre tract in the northeast part of the county. No action occurred afterward.
Rorik Peterson, development director for EDP, told the Register at a recent meeting in Moran he anticipated the company would seek a permit to build the wind farm before year’s end. He also said a permit for the substation would be first step of the process.
If all falls into place, construction would start in late spring.
Mitch Garner, director of Public Works, told commissioners a new hangar for Allen County Airport had been ordered for installation in 2018. Cost was $25,000, less doors, which will obtained separately. Garner said he continues to await bids and an insurance settlement for repairs to a hangar damaged in a storm earlier this year.
Commissioners approved a bid of $3,800 from Rebel Works, Iola, to construct and install handrails to accommodate handicapped visitors at the north entrance to the courthouse.
