Buster Dale Flynn, 85, Wellsville, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Wellsville Retirement Community.
He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Sapulpa, Okla., the son of Bert B. and Eva Bell (Brown) Flynn. At 12, he moved with his family to Moran where he graduated from high school in 1942.
In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in World War II. He flew 41 combat missions in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. 
On June 20, 1948, he married Dorlene Young in Moran. They shared 54 years of marriage before her death in 2003. He worked in oil fields for 17 years and spent the remainder of his working years as a pipe fitter until his retirement in 1987. He served on the Franklin Rural Water board from 1990 to 2000, was a member of the Union Pipe Fitters Local No. 553, Wellsville United Methodist Church and Wellsville American Legion Post No. 194.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Pam and Sid Symes, Emporia; a son and his companion, Darrell Flynn and Mary Overby, Wellsville; a brother, Bert, Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Ellen Paschal, Wagoner, Okla., Laura Baker, Osawatomie, and Judy Baker, Iola; four grandchildren, Stephanie Niemeier and her husband, Aaron, Shawnee, Ryan Symes and his wife, Robin, Overland Park, Scott Symes, Denver, Colo., and Staci Selk, Overland Park; and many nieces and nephews. 
A brother and an infant sister died earlier.
Funeral services were this morning at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Burial was in Moran Cemetery.
