Carl Aaron Cook, 79, of Iola died of pneumonia at Allen County Hospital on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.
He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in Forum, Ark., to Philander and Millie (Moppin) Cook. He grew up in Arkansas, California and the Kansas City area.
He married Bonnie McDaniel in May of 1953 and they had three children. They divorced in 1958. In June of 1959 he married Ruby (Collins) Robertson and they had three more children and four stepchildren. They divorced in 1973.
He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life but his main joy was as a mechanic. He belonged to the Teamsters Union of Kansas City, Ararat Temple and Masonic Lodge of Kansas City and participated in many parades with the Shriners driving a little car.
Carl loved golf, bowling and fishing in his earlier years and was a diehard sports fan, especially for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to the end. He was always ready with jokes and had a “tall tale” to share with all.
He is survived by a brother, Phillip Sr. and his wife, Teresa, Harrisonville, Mo.; a sister, Marilyn Horn and her husband, Roger, Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Marsha Miller, Kansas City; five children, Cindy Kilbourn and her husband, Larry, Shelbina, Mo., Randy Cook and his wife, Gail, Moberly, Mo., Carla Capper and her husband, Brent, Gas, Robert Cook and his wife, Karrie, Pickerington, Ohio, and Jeff Cook and his wife, Teresa, Iola; four stepchildren, Larry Robertson and his wife, Sherri, Harveyville, Pam Shrum, Pittsburg, Joe Robertson, Springdale, Ark., and Kelly Robertson and his wife, Patty, Logansport, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by s sister, Bernita Overman, a son, Gary Cook, and a brother-in-law, Mike Miller.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Shriner’s Hospitals.
Cremation has taken place.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with interment at Mount Washington Forever Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
