Marilyn Colgin, 89, Mildred, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott.

She was born on March 31, 1927, at home east of Mildred. Marilyn was the third of eight children born to Clifford and Emma (Hackett) Call of Mildred. She grew up in Mildred, attending grade school there and high school in Moran, graduating in 1945. She earned her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State College.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Clifford Colgin on July 29, 1944, in Garnett. This union was blessed with three children. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2001.

She was a member of the Mildred United Methodist Church and on Oct. 16, 2016, she was re-baptized at her request. She was also a member of the Sunflower Quilting Guild.

Marilyn worked at McGinty-Whitworth in Iola for 35 years, and then went to work for Charlie Brown’s Store of Mildred until the age of 85.

She was known for her talents of sewing, tailoring, quilting and baking. She was always ready to bake someone bread, cinnamon rolls or pies. Her grandchildren always knew she had cookies for them when they visited. Her family and friends were her life’s treasures.

Marilyn was also preceded by her parents; four brothers, Merlyn, Curtis, Lawrence, Jerry; one infant sister, Joyce; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

She is survived by two sons, David Colgin and wife Debra, Kem Colgin and wife Rebekah, both of rural Moran; one daughter, Norma Sandusky and husband Vernon, Edna; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Kendall Call and wife Billie, Iola; and one sister, Beverly Bynum and husband, Bud, Topeka.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Mildred United Methodist Church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Mildred. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mildred United Methodist Church.
